作曲家艾爾加（ Edward Elgar, 1889–1920）在創作Salut d'Amour 時，就把這首作為訂婚禮物送給他的未婚妻卡洛琳·愛麗絲·羅伯茨。如果在當今的婚禮，能選到這首曲目作為婚禮的音樂環節，不僅浪漫，更是符合原曲當初時代的背景意義。
艾爾加的未婚妻愛麗絲精通德文，所以一開始在命名樂曲時將曲子命名為《Liebesgruß》「愛的禮讚」的德文，題詞為法文「à Carice」，意為「致卡麗斯」，這也是未婚妻姓與名的縮寫，更是兩年後女兒出生的名字，在一段時間後，出版商為了讓這首曲目更好地受到注目，因此改名為Salut d'Amour。Salut在法文中有著致敬的意思，Amore是愛情，如果中文直譯的話就會是『與愛致敬』，但現在中文翻譯變成了愛的禮讚，比原本的意思更多了一份莊嚴，不失一份美意。這首小品的初版為小提琴與鋼琴的作品，但後來出版商在改名成Salut d'Amour後，受到許多歐洲樂迷喜愛，因此這首小品不斷的被改編成不同版本。
